Whispers in Darkness
In the distant Tion Cluster, far from the bright lights and bustling power of the Galactic Core, a Shadow stirs in the darkness between the stars. In the old places, the forgotten places, It's form moves and undulates, perceived by a few, comprehended only by the mad. Few places in the galaxy are as old, as shadowed, as the Raxus system, and here the first whispers of a new Age are susurrating. Secrets long buried will be uncovered, but will their warning come too late to save... anyone...
Dramatis Personae
Raxus Secundus - Government
Senator Lux Bonteri |
The jaded but still idealistic Imperial Senator of the Tion Hegemony sector. His duties are split between the capitol on Coruscant, his Senatorial offices on Tion, and his family's estate on Raxus Secundus.
Governor Lanod Neff |
A lecherous philandering politician eager to solidify his power base and keep Guild Lords in line.
Exarch Cothos |
Commander of Raxus Secundus' local militia. A man so renowned for corruption that many citizens assumed the announcement of his commission was a joke... until he started arresting people.
Captain Tolliver Trask |
Captain of the Victory Class Star Destroyer Charon and the aging commander of the Raxus System Garrison. A distinguished veteran of the Clone Wars, he has earned the respect of his charges and the system at large. He cares little about the day to day politics of Raxus and encourages his men to stay out of local business. He supports Moff Neff out of respect for the political process that put him in power, if not for the man himself.
Raxus Secundus - Guild Lords
Lord Balobar Smenk |
A corpulent elemental of corruption and bad taste, Balabar Smenk lords his political clout over everyone on Raxus Secundus save the Moff and the Exarch, who he private mocks. Smenk has wrestled four mining patents into his possession in the last 10 years, and has designs on the rest. A coven of sycophants and hired goons surrounds him at all times. Rumors suggest he has powerfully connected friends on Chandaar.
Lord Ragnolin Dourg |
A sallow skinned Sullustan who bought his way into the brotherhood of Guild Lords with foreign credits. He maintains his small empire with black eyed secrecy.
Lord Chaum Gansworth |
Raxus Secundus' youngest Guild Lord is also its most cautious. He's sympathetic to the appeals of his paramour Luzane Parrin to join her and Gelch Tilgast in an alliance against the spreading influence of Balabar Smenk, but his inherent pragmatism suggests that even together they may not be strong enough to hold back the inevitable.
Lord Ellival Melarin |
Regulars at Lazar's gambling parlor know this reclusive Echani as "The Prince", since he is rumored to be a minor noble from the distant Echani holdings. He remains aloof from the affairs of the local Raxan Guild Lords, seeing their trafficking in Primus "junk" as far more vulgar than his crystal monopoly based on Raxus Tertius.
Lord Gelch Tilgast |
Ten years ago, the aging Gelch Tilgrast held the reins of Raxus' mining trade, a position he'd enjoyed most of his life. Then, Balabar Smenk and his boundless ambition arrived. In his youth, Tilgrest would have relished the challenge, but he didn't move fast enough to block Smenk's ascent, which has led directly to his own decline. Tilgast currently fuels enormous energy into building an alliance against Smenk that includes Luzane Parrin and a handful of weaker Guild managers.
Lord Luzane Parrin |
As the yield of her mining contracts faltered in the last decade, so faltered the fortunes of Luzane Parrin, inheritor of her mother's proud legacy as one of Raxus Secundus' wealthiest Guild Lords. First, a humiliated Parrin discharged most of her house staff. Then, she was forced to scornfully sell her family's ancient estate to Balabar Smenk, who had rudely courted her for years despite the fact that she was married. Two years ago, her husband died. She now clings to a hopeful relationship with Chaum Gansworth and a political alliance with Gelch Tilgast as the last defenses against Smenk's disgusting advances.
Raxus Secundus - The Faithful, The Seekers, and the Machinists
Prophetus Jierian Wierus |
High Priest of the Kybellene mystery cult on Raxus Secundus. Devoted to the "Meter Theon", the so-called Mother of the Gods, this bombastic orator routinely engages in populist rants that appeal to the best virtues and values of the common man while at the same time whipping them into a frenzy of fear and superstition.
Auric |
The human retired gladiator Auric wears a unique red and black leather girdle topped witha representation of a haunted female face - the Champion's Belt of the Chandaaran Arena. The leader of the Seekers, a small mercenary commission under current retainer to the Machinists of Nikatao.
Tirra |
The vivacious Zabrak Tirra is in the fringer life for the money, and is rumored to be a member in good standing of a well connected criminal syndicate.
Khellek |
This balding, dark-haired human wears the high collared red cape and gear clasp of the Machinists of Nikatao. His receding hairline reveals his advancing age, as does the streaks of white hair at his temples. Khellek belongs to the Machinists of Nikatao, an ancient order of technomancers. Specifically, he leads the Seekers, a splinter group of mercenaries, archaeologists, and treasure hunters who seek knowledge regardless of the cost.
Allustan Neff |
Older brother of Moff Lanod Neff. A retired scholar with a reputation for being something of a sage. Allustan Neff is a member of the reclusive Lyceum of Gienah, and whispers abound that he has powers reminiscent of the fallen Jedi Order.
Raxus Secundus - Business and Underworld
Zalamandra |
The seductive Twi'lek madame and entrepreneurial owner of The Emporium, Diamundus' premier gaming establishment and night spot. The information that she holds has made her incredibly rich and powerful in Raxan society.
Lazare Holt |
The elegant and handsome owner of Lazare's House, the refined, high society alternative to the Emporium. The former Guild Lord Lazare calls little attention to himself, merely ensuring that his patrons are able to play and converse uninterrupted.
Tidwoad |
The unscrupulous Toydarian Tidwoad is the owner and proprietor of Tidwoad's Treasures. Part pawn shop, part jeweler, part assessor, Tidwoad and his droids do a brisk business in ill-gotten treasures "recovered" from Raxus Prime.
Kullen |
A rare Albino Khaleesh, the silently seething former indentured miner leads his own band of motley thugs and extortionists from the seedy taproom known as The Feral Nekk.

The Raxus system was a three-planet star system, located in the Tion Hegemony in the Outer Rim Territories.
Description
The Raxus system was home to the junkyard planet Raxus Prime, and Raxus Secundus, the capital of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. The star system had one star, Raxus.
History
Around 30,000 BBY, the system was annexed by the expanding Infinite Empire, while Humans colonized the nearby worlds of Barseg and Janilis via sleeper ships after 27,500 BBY. Following the downfall of the Rakata in 25,200 BBY due to a plague and a slave revolt, the system was briefly ruled by the Livien League. After circa 25,120 BBY, Raxus Prime served as a capital for Xer VIII's Tionese faction—the Kingdom of Cron—before being absorbed by the expansive empire of Xim the Despot.
After Xim's empire collapsed in a war with the Hutt Empire in 25,096 BBY, the Raxus system was briefly ruled by the Honorable Union of Desevro & Tion. In 24,000 BBY, the Tionese fought against the Galactic Republic along the newly blazed Perlemian Trade Route, but they joined them a century later after being exhausted by the conflict.
During the time of the Cold War, a proxy conflict between the Sith Empire and Galactic Republic, an ancient navigational probe of unknown origins was located in the system. Eventually, someone was sent to slice into the probe's datacore and discover its origins.
